Every mental health directory out there will tell you they care about access to care. Most of them built their platform to make money first and solve problems second. TheraConnect started the other way around.
We began as part of a nonprofit — a wellness organization focused on one simple idea: that support for your mind and your body shouldn’t be locked behind insurance red tape, waitlists, or a maze of directories that all seem to work better for the platforms than for the people using them. Somewhere along the way, we kept running into the same wall. People needed care. Providers wanted to give it. And the systems in between kept getting in the way.
So we built TheraConnect to get out of the way.
No insurance required. Not because insurance is bad, but because it shouldn’t be the only door into care. If you’ve ever tried to find a therapist who takes your plan, only to hit a dead end after three phone calls and a two-month wait, you already know why this matters.
Providers keep what they earn. We didn’t design a model where the platform takes a cut of every session. Providers set their own rates, keep their own earnings, and build their own practice — we just make it easier for the right clients to find them.
Coaches included, not sidelined. Mental health isn’t the only kind of support people need. Experienced wellness coaches belong in this conversation too, and we built TheraConnect to reflect that from day one — not as an afterthought.
This isn’t a pitch dressed up as a mission statement. Join us It’s the actual reason the directory exists. And it’s why we’re inviting providers to join now, while we’re still building the founding chapter of this thing.
If you’re a provider:
Joining as a Founding Provider means locking in a rate that won’t change as the platform grows — client access stays free, and your listing gets seen by people who are actively looking for someone like you. You’re not just filling a directory slot. You’re one of the people shaping what this becomes.
We know your time matters, so we kept it simple: create a profile, get verified, and start showing up to people searching for support in your area. No long onboarding. No hidden tiers designed to nickel-and-dime you later.
If you’re looking for care:
You don’t need a referral. You don’t need to prove you have the right insurance. You need someone who’s actually available, and a way to find them that doesn’t feel like a part-time job. That’s what we’re building toward — a directory where the barrier to finding help is as low as it should have been all along.
Why this matters right now
The therapist shortage is real, and it’s not getting better on its own. Waitlists are getting longer, not shorter. People are giving up on finding care simply because the process is exhausting. A directory rooted in nonprofit values — built to connect people, not extract from them — is a small but real answer to a problem that’s only growing.
We’re still early. That’s not a weakness — it’s an invitation. The providers and clients who join now aren’t just using a platform. They’re helping build an alternative to a system that’s clearly not working for enough people.
If that sounds like something you want to be part of — as a provider building a practice on your own terms, or as someone looking for support without the runaround — TheraConnect is open, and we’d genuinely love to have you.
